The Mankato City Council is taking steps to secure additional funding for the planned Mankato Regional Airport air traffic control tower.
At Tuesday’s meeting, October 13th, the council considered two resolutions related to the project. One amended the guaranteed maximum construction price, while the other authorized city staff to apply for additional federal funding through the FAA Contract Tower Program for the 2027 fiscal year.
The tower is expected to cost about 28 million dollars, and current grants do not cover the full amount.
The city is seeking more than 4-point-6 million dollars in additional FAA funding, which could become available as early as next spring.
Knutson Construction will manage the project, with construction expected to begin in April 2027 and finish in summer 2028.
